Last acquisition in 2015 -- 900

Not a 300, not a 600. But just picked this 900 up.

Seller acquired 50+ guns from an estate. This was one of them. Since he got those cheap, he could sell it relatively lower (of course, still has his profit. No one wants to move things around if lose money). But he's not in the domain, his description might not be accurate, and for a single gun,,,, it's obviously not economical for me to spend $300 to go there to check.... so there is a little bit risk. Will arrive next week, and will know by then.

Unfortunately, no matching stock. Otherwise, it could be top of line.

So far, I am pretty sure its finish. The risk is on numbers. Have to wait its delivery though. I had half a dozen of these went through my hands, the volume of this type is smaller than M1930 . Will know soon.

Back ten years ago, I got a bunch of shooter guns but did not have any collector guns at that time. A collector running a web site had some of his collection posted. My mouth was full of water. I was interested in his 7.63mm ones ..... "Where did he get these... By which day, I will find a pair of guns like these ones...." -- that's right, I did not want many collector guns, I only wanted two -- two like these..

Heard story from another forum -- back in 1950s and 1960s, there was a nursery rhymes in Beijing, saying

"bicycle has large chain case,
broomhandle has a side plate"

-- A type of East Germany made bicycle at that time had a cased chain box which must be very noticeable. And, the "broomhandle" referred in rhymes must be Astra 900.

Astra 900 is a little bit too heavy, it's obviously heavier than Mauser. Compare with Astra 900's weight, conehammer is a feather. That's a disadvantage. The advantage is its trigger. Its trigger is as smooth and crisp as Mauser pocket pistol. It works well in range, just too heavy to hold it and raise arm straight to aim on target over... say... 10 seconds. As a C&R, it's perfectly fine and attractive, it has many "positive" points from C&R viewing angle: the shape looks odd, the structure is odd, it's very heavy, it's well finished, it's old and had a little bit history, etc.

If you ever shot a Remington Army cap & ball revolver you wouldn't say that. They are about the same weight. And if you ever tried a Colt Dragoon or even better a Walker, you would think the Astra is a feather.

I don't know about bicycles, but my 1965 Norton Atlas had an enclosed-case oil-bath chaincase originally...Open drive chains wear out more quickly than any other part; always exposed to weather and environment...California must be hard on chains, all that grit & sand dust in the air...
