Put it back.

Heard story from another forum -- back in 1950s and 1960s, there was a nursery rhymes in Beijing, saying

"bicycle has large chain case,
broomhandle has a side plate"


-- A type of East Germany made bicycle at that time had a cased chain box which must be very noticeable. And, the "broomhandle" referred in rhymes must be Astra 900.

When I was a kid [1950's], there were a lot of Confucius 'witticisms'...("Confucius say...")...Most amusing, some actually appropriate...

I don't know about bicycles, but my 1965 Norton Atlas had an enclosed-case oil-bath chaincase originally...Open drive chains wear out more quickly than any other part; always exposed to weather and environment...California must be hard on chains, all that grit & sand dust in the air...
