Sear safety question....
Fellows
If a P08 has a hole that would accompany a sear-safety rivet, but no rivet or sear safety, did the gun originally have have a sear safety? |

If the top of the sideplate does not have the cutout for the sear safety to function correctly then it was not installed. I know this occurred on some late production 1942 Police Banners.
If the hole was drilled and the sideplate was cutout then I would say it did have a sear safety. Tom |

It depends on the vintage of the pistol and if it is a matching pistol or not.
Many sear safeties were later(post war) removed by owners. JMHO

The post war East German new P08 was made with the sear safety provisions, but these were never installed. Possibly they copied a police pistol that had the sear safety at one time, didn't bother to check why the holes were there and just copied them.

I do have new DDR trigger bars (sears) that are drilled for the police sear safety, but no cut out side plates. TH

Doc, et. al: I ask because I have a mixmaster luger (shooter) whose barrel extension has a hole for a sear-safety rivet. However, the sideplate is not matching to the BE and has no cutout. Would it be feasible to cut out the existing sideplate and fit a rivet and sear safety bar? It would be a sort of pseudo rework.....

Why would you want to do that to a mis-matched shooter. The sear safety adds nothing to the shooting. It was/is a "safety" measure for dummies that leave a round in the chamber when disassembling the luger. If your pistol is not matching there is nothing to "restore". JMHO.
