M1911 Barrel Bushing Q - Page 2

Hey! I found my .45 barrel bushing reamer!

It got misplaced into, of all places, my drill and ...reamer...drawer...

Kinda grubby looking...Like it got put away without being cleaned...

It's obvious why I couldn't find it...It looks like any other drill tube...

I'm sure another member here can put Marc's bushing to good use. Maybe even as you suggest.

For those not familiar with the collet bushing, here is one with its 38 Super barrel.

Edit: The bushing has four slots. The 'groove' you see is an internal ridge that physically touches the barrel. A 'normal' Colt bushing is a thousandth or so over the barrel dia, and theoretically rides on a film of oil, similar to an automotive crankshaft bearing. I don't shoot my Colts enough to notice any appreciable wear, and the collet flange ID is within a thousandth or so of the barrel dia, so I suppose that acts as a kind of 'fallback' if the fingers should wear enough to no longer center the barrel in the bushing. Just conjecture on my part.

I own a Series 70 full size commercial Colt with the collet bushing that I bought new about 1971 and have never had a problem with it.

That 1911A1 of yours looks great. Congratulations Sergio.

PS. More than great it looks brand new. Amazing for a 1943 pistol.

My 1911A1. Mostly Ithaca but with a Remington frame, was rebuilt in Augusta Arsenal in the 50s and looks like it went through WWII, Korea and Vietnam before it found it's way into my hands.

In fact I'm almost sure it's unissued.

Arsenal rebuilds are sought after by many collectors now, they represent a page of the US history.

I was shocked to find, while measuring barrel/muzzle diameters last night, that I have seven 1911-style handguns!

Three Colt-Hartford, two 38 Super, one each Argentine and Brazilian army, one with rib, three with collet bushings, one Gold Cup, two Series 70, one Commander, and an assortment of accessory caliber barrels, sometimes on, sometimes boxed.

There's only one I shoot with any regularity: the Gold Cup.

I gotta clean out my safe.

I actually saw a Remington in my LGS today on consignment for $1800 in pristine condition. Probably one of the NRA refurb pistols available from the DCM...

Alas, not a Mauser.

Seriously, I don't know if mrerick's picture also is a photoshop, but wasn't there a company that stamped slides with the Mauser banner and sold them as German made?
