Luger with H&H barrel

Hi:

New to the board.

I have been introduced to a Luger with the following specs:

WWI manufacture, 1915 I think but not sure.
Six inch barrel with H&H stamped on the underside of the barrel.
Huge target sights.
Shoulder stock lug.

Can anyone tell me anything about this piece? Does the H&H stand for Holland and Holland? Is this a one-off, or were a bunch made up and for who and what? What would be its value? I may want to purchase it.

Sounds like a custom job to me... can you post some photos?

Sparky, from your description the Luger in question sounds like a "shooter" fixed up to satisfy a previous owner..... or the present owner. I doubt that "H&H" stands for Holland & Holland as I think they would have stamped the whole name.

To really give a good evaluation, pictures and a better description of markings, etc. are needed. It sounds interesting even if it's not "original".

Sparky, I believe H & H was a small US barrel manufacturer in at least the 1970's. I seem to remember muzzle loading rifle target of very high quality from H & H.

Then again it could be Hugh and Homer. Hugh is a luger collector barrel installer that posts on this forum, Homer is the stetson wearing armadillo that set up the machines for Hugh.

Heinz, I think you are correct...Isn't H&H the name of the barrel maker/black powder firearm manufacturer that was marketed by Dixie Gun Works a couple of decades ago? I didn't know that they manufactured modern gun parts... Does anyone have an old Dixie catalog from the mid to late '70s to look this up? Mine were destroyed by a basement flood about 15 years ago... along with a lot of other gun-related references of my youth... <img border="0" alt="[crying]" title="" src="graemlins/crying.gif" />

Hello Everyone!

I've been lurking here for awhile trying to learn about Lugers. Well needless to say I now know less than what i thought I knew before i joined. Before I joined i knew nothing about Lugers, now I'm just confused! I've been into milsurps for close to 25 years however i have never gotten "into" Lugers before. It seems to me the most confusing area of collecting that I have been sucked into.

Sparky was finally able to get his hands on the H&H Luger. I am uploading (I hope if all goes well!!) some pictures on his behalf. Any more information or confirmation of the above info would be greatly appreciated.

I will also shortly post the Artillery Luger rig I picked up when Sparky got this one. As etiquette, should i jus tpost in the Artillery Luger forum? It's pretty complete: Arty Luger, leather holster, wooden stock, drum magazine c/w cover. Yes I am happy!

That's a pretty heavy duty looking Luger. It is a custom job all the way through. Someone has coverted it to a pure target pistol. Is it a .30 or a 9MM?

Sorry to say that it has little collector value, but is very interesting. I'll bet it shoots pretty good. The barrel looks like a section out of a Mauser stepped rifle barrel.

Sorry it took so long to follow up on this guys, but some deals just take forever, this one took over 21 months!?!

I did contact Holland and Holland about the barrel. They said it was not their's as they would have stamped it "Holland and Holland" not "H&H". They thought it an interesting piece though. I think the barrel is probably from the Dixie Gun Works.

Now a follow up. I acquired three mags as spares for this pistol and was wondering about their reliability, value etc.

Mag #1:

Stainless (or maybe in the white) mag body. Body is two pieces folded together at the back ridge of the mag. Magazine bottom piece is aluminum. And is marked as follows: "6956" below that is a stylised lower case "d", below that is cross plus "+" and below that, right at the bottom is an eagle with 63 underneath. Also, the magazine connecting pin for the bottom piece does not go through the knob, but at the back of the mag.

Mag #2:

Blued one piece steel (at least it looks so to me). Markings as follows: at the bottom left side of the mag at the back, "P.08" right beside that "939". On the same side of the mag but at the front bottom is "fxo" with an eagle with"37" below. At the top on the same side is another eagle/37. The magazine connecting pin goes through the knob this time and the magazine bottom piece is black plastic (or some other synthetic).

Mag #3:

Identical to mag #2 except no 3-digit number after the "P.08" marking at all and the magazine bottom piece is aluminum and connects the same way.

Sparky, All three of your mag would appear to be original Mauser, with the exception of the #939 stamped on #2 mag. #1 sound like a pre1938 Mauser WaA office E/63 inspected. The last two are extruded Schmeisser designed made at C.G. Haenel (FXO mfg code) from June 41 thur 1945. TH
