My father was in the infantry during WWII. When I was a kid he told me about a time during the "Bulge" his outfit was visited by a Tiger while they were holding a town. "When Tigers were coming the ground shook" he said. For some unknown reason the Tiger backed out of town after facing what little resistance his squad could muster. I asked him "Did you go after it and knock it out"?? His reply was "Are you kidding!! We were just glad to see it go...they could raise alot of hell with one of those things."
Not too long ago I began going through a shoe box full of letters he wrote while in the Army. In one of them he wrote of what I believe to be this very incident. I don't remember the exact quote, I think he wrote something along the lines of "THAT was a BIG tank". |
