Ed, I completely understand your point of view. I shared the same view until fairly recently. I have been seeing very nice matching lugers coming out of old collections, being sold off by heirs who do not have an interest in such pieces, like we do. Time has passed and has claimed many old time collectors, many of whom had their pick of the litter, so to speak, after WW1 and 2. Keep in mind that not EVERY military man saw front line action. Some certainly rarely took their P.08 out of its holster. I own a 41 dated Mauser banner commercial that is in absolute pristine condition (said to be out of the Mel Trome collection) that has a almost totally trashed bore. It was fired by someone a few times and never cleaned. These things do happen and just present further challenges to collectors to make sure they are not products of Waffenfabrik USA. That's why one must have "experts" lined up to examine the piece during the necessary three day trial period.
