Humped "G" date Mauser
 

Gunrunner auction no.811702499. Looks badly engraved rather than stamped and slightly off center. I'll try a link http://www.gunrunnerauctions.com/lis...mnum=811702499 Would you call it a reblue also? This is a test to see if I'm learning anything.

hmmmmm, interesting how the matching magazine looks like it is from 1937, while the rest of the gun is 97% :rolleyes: :confused: :rolleyes:

If that gun has been reblued the pics would have fooled me,Im curious to see what others think. clink

Must say maybe Im stupid but sure does not look like a reblue to me. Mag also looks good.

It looks like a righteous late "G" date to me, with the suffix "c". It appears to have the proper DE/63 proofs on the right side of the receiver. The blue looks original. A very nice "G" date.

I think it is strange to see the aution #153 and the gun numbered 154. Bait and switch or mistake?

I know there are lots of really nice guns out there, but nice guns still cause me pause.

These guns are over 60 years old and were carried in war. I am just amazed at how many "nice guns I see, and I'm therefor skeptical about them...

Always something to consider; if the magazine is rough, and this one is okay, but still makes me wonder, or if the barrel is pitted on the inside (and I have no idea if it is), then the outside should show wear with as much wear as the magazine and / or barrel would show.

Ed, I completely understand your point of view. I shared the same view until fairly recently. I have been seeing very nice matching lugers coming out of old collections, being sold off by heirs who do not have an interest in such pieces, like we do. Time has passed and has claimed many old time collectors, many of whom had their pick of the litter, so to speak, after WW1 and 2. Keep in mind that not EVERY military man saw front line action. Some certainly rarely took their P.08 out of its holster. I own a 41 dated Mauser banner commercial that is in absolute pristine condition (said to be out of the Mel Trome collection) that has a almost totally trashed bore. It was fired by someone a few times and never cleaned. These things do happen and just present further challenges to collectors to make sure they are not products of Waffenfabrik USA. That's why one must have "experts" lined up to examine the piece during the necessary three day trial period.

By the way, totally off the above subject, but I fail to see that this "G" date has a Mauser hump. I don't believe any did.

Kind of looks to me as if the mag has been restamped. There are shadows above the 4 and the 2 and the 1 is out of alignment with the other numbers. It's a pretty pistol, but the total absense of side plate and muzzle wear makes me wonder. Guess the excellance of the fakers as of late is making me a skeptic.
