A Luger Video...

With gas going back into the extractor area, it is no wonder that many breechblocks are ruined when the firing pin guide is pushed back. I had no idea gas made it back to the extractor in normal firing. Almost looks like a very delayed puff of gas comes out of the front toggle pin area, the toggle pin that connects the front link to the breechblock. I wish I could see this one frame at a time but my software doesnt have a single frame feature. Very interesting when you think the entire cycle is accomplished in 1/60th of a second or less (The History Channel-Tales of the Gun-The Luger documentary) Doesnt leave much time for the next round to get in the required alignement to be pushed up the feed ramp, hence the need for a very strong magazine spring to prevent feeding failures. Notice the breech moves immediately forward after the reciever stop bounces off the frame and the whole assembly is propelled forward. A very interesting video for sure.
