A Luger Video...
I found this Luger video on the Internet. High speed video of the gun firing, so you can see it in slow motion. Take notice of the small jet of gas from the extractor area. I wonder if happens before the case sealed up the chamber...

This is a GREAT slow motion video of the Luger firing sequence... too bad they didn't show the whole gun... but still a GREAT video clip showing the firing and reloading cycle.
Thanks Johnny for sharing that... |
Yes, it would have been nice to see the whole gun. The bullet might have been visible as well. I now know what causes that mark on the cartridge case near the mouth, that I see all the time. The case hits the extractor as you can see in the video, when it spins around. The toggle bouncing slightly after returning shows the energies at play as well...

I really like this video.
Always considered the incorporation of a bounce-lock as a bit of stupid idea. But after seeing this video I start to understand why both Borchardt and Luger decided to keep it (for a while at least). |
With gas going back into the extractor area, it is no wonder that many breechblocks are ruined when the firing pin guide is pushed back. I had no idea gas made it back to the extractor in normal firing. Almost looks like a very delayed puff of gas comes out of the front toggle pin area, the toggle pin that connects the front link to the breechblock. I wish I could see this one frame at a time but my software doesnt have a single frame feature. Very interesting when you think the entire cycle is accomplished in 1/60th of a second or less (The History Channel-Tales of the Gun-The Luger documentary) Doesnt leave much time for the next round to get in the required alignement to be pushed up the feed ramp, hence the need for a very strong magazine spring to prevent feeding failures. Notice the breech moves immediately forward after the reciever stop bounces off the frame and the whole assembly is propelled forward. A very interesting video for sure.

Thor, get Irfanview. It is free and it can allow you to use it for all images and videos. It can even make changes to images. My favorite feature, is that it allows you to view images using the full screen!!!
Go to http://irfanview.tuwien.ac.at/ You will quickly stop using that other stuff to look at images and videos after using this... |
If you liked the Luger video, then take a look at their C-96 video. It appears to be a full auto version, though it fires only two shots...
