Tim, I think that Roadkill is correct in his calling your #24 an inverntory number. I've also hear these refered to as "rack" numbers and they are sometimes struck on the rear of the frame, just above the lanyard loop. So I guess it depended on how the PO8s were stored, where the marks were applied. This was certainly not an official mandated marking, so any rules as to location and size, don't apply.
