The barrel was probably replaced.
Spare armorer's parts produced by Mauser had the "42" number in small 2mm to 4mm digits. The HZa mark is from a rework depot during the later Nazi era. Check out our forum FAQ PDF document. It's free to download. Just follow the FAQ link at the the top of the page.
