Default S&W Revolver Smith ???

I am a member of two Colt forums and one S&W forum, but there is no member on those forums that I would be comfortable receiving advice from...So...

Can anyone here, from experience, recommend a S&W revolver gunsmith??? I have a Model 10 that needs lockwork repair...

Rich,
I've "fixed" many Smiths over the years; they are not that complicated.
If you take a little time and study the works you can figure it out.

I have tried, and replaced almost all the lockwork with new parts, and the cylinder won't lock in place, consistently. It's somewhat old, and this has evidently been a persistent problem, as the cylinder was replaced before I bought it (at scrap price), as well as the barrel.

It may have had a hot load blow a cylinder wall out. The bluing was sanded/buffed down on the top strap, and the bottom of the frame where the cylinder lock sticks up is indented slightly.

As a last resort, contact Smith and Wesson directly. I have had them do action jobs and other gunsmithing work for me. Plus, they have the added incentive to make it work, since their name is on it.

I met one of the Smith and Wesson factory gunsmiths at a local event where I had him go over several of my revolvers.

I have never met a gunsmith was as complete a "feel" for the mechanism.

You may have a S&W dealer that participates in their annual on-site event program near you. It would be worth checking with them.

If it's worth the repair, consider sending it to them at the factory.

Jerry Kuhnhausen's shop manuals are the best available for the Smith lockwork. I have a copy that is older than the one mentioned in the above post. It covers things well enough that you might be able to make progress.

You don't mention the model; but it sounds like it may not be "worth" fixing.

No, but his name pops up on a very regular basis and everybody seems to be very happy with his work, prices and turnaround time.

You could also contact S&W, they should be able to fix it. I asked them about setting the barrel gap and fixing the end shake on my K22 a while back, and IIRC they said that it would be $150. Of course, I found it better to spend the money on tools and do it myself, but it's still not too bad for having it fixed by the manufacturer.
