My theory
To compare this symbol with the grooves* of the barrel polygonal, I could tell that the mark points or represent the four grooves of the barrel, which are from left to right. ** But this is only a deduction, the result of my observation and I could not find anything written about it, for which grateful opinions or comments. |

I concurr with Jim_R. Gortz & Sturgess identifiy the "four-circle lozenge" as one of about 11 different inspectors marks used during DWM production 1899-1930. My M1900 commercial has it.
