Rust bluing sounds like the route I may wind up taking as its something it sounds like I an do. I plan to order a book on how to do it when I order the rust bluing from Brownels so I can read up on how to do it properly.

Looks like I'll be doing the whole thing myself start to finish which is cool.

Which book are you planning to buy? There's some good literature on the topic, but the books you usually hear about (like Angier) are rather old, and due to the antiquated nomenclature and the intended audience they are very complicated to follow for a beginner. It never hurts to read up, but I'd say that this thread covers the subject in a more comprehensive format than any book I have ever read: http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthread.php?t=27280

You're obviously not shooting for a show winner, so if you skip the part about mixing your own formula you'll find that the procedure is rather simple.
