Hi All,
I have had a theory for a long time about the scarcity of the 1935 Luger holsters. Mauser started making the P.08s in 1934. I suspect the German military had a large order placed for them. Mauser seems to have had problems producing the number of guns that the military wanted although I have seen no hard documentation of that. But, seemingly, the military would have wanted more than the 11,000 or so that Mauser produced. Holsters are much easier to make than pistols. So, I suspect that a large number of holsters dated 1934 were produced anticipating matching them up with K date Lugers but the pistol production fell far short of the goal. With a large over stock of 1934 dated holsters, they would have likely limited the orders for more 1935 dated ones. So, I think that most G date Lugers were issued with 1934 dated holsters. I have no proof of any of the above but my theory is the result of a long time analysis of the situation. Just my opinion. Regards, Leon |
