1935 Holster
 

Do any of you have or seen a 1935 Army luger holster made by other than C. Heinichen,Dresden? I have only seen a couple 1935 army holsters and pictures in Bender and Jan's books. All have been C. Heinichen. Perhaps with so very few made he was the only contractor? Just curious. Bill

Bill, Here is one for sale on Whermacht Awards but unfortunately the maker is obscured? Not nearly in the condition yours is!

I have a 1935 Army holster I got a decade ago but it is in Colorado! If I remember a few months from now I will look at it and let you know..

The 1935 army holster made by C Heinichen, Dresden is "reported" to be the rarest of all the military Luger holsters. It is unknown as to why there were so few holsters made dated 1935as compared to other years.

I have one of these 1935 Dresden holsters in very good condition with a G-Date Luger in it.

Are all of yours Army ? I have had several Police holsters from 1935. Thanks for your response. Bill

My notes indicate that they are all military. I will double check but it will take me some time. I will be leaving on Wednesday for the SOS show and will set up my table there there on Wednesday evening. And then there is NGD where I also have a table. (Then I have to recover when I get home.)


I had those (and other holsters) as a part of a display in 2005 at the Missouri Valley Arms Collectors Association. I have looked at them only once since. Actually, they are still packed from coming back from the show.

The reason is that in June 2006, I had water damage. The tank on the toilet cracked somewhere between Midnight and 7:30 AM. I had water damage to over 1/2 of the house. They did not complete the restoration work (for the most part) until 3 days before Christmas in 2006. It took around 6 months for the small things.

The good thing is that the water damage did not extend to the area where the guns and holsters were kept.

But I am still not straightened out.

I have attached some pictures of the holster display.

(Please note: The pictures overlap very much as I was trying to make sure that I had all of the holsters. The 1935 holsters
are in the right hand pictures.)

There is a 1935 dated Otto Sindel with one of my G-dates.

Old pattern like those issued in 1934 with the loop for the cleaning rod and extra flap for patches.

But agree, 1935 holsters are rare. Have no idea why.

I have one of the old pattern (like the 1934 ones) but I do not recall the maker.

John, I forgot to mention one thing.

The 1935 Military holster is difficult to find, although it seems that the 1934 holster is not hard to find.

That being said -- while the 1935 military holster is difficult to find, it shoud be noted that the 1935 military holster with the
1934 Features (the loop for the cleaning rod etc) are "even more" difficult to find.

I would wonder about a 1935 dated military holster with the provision for rod and patches because the rod was replaced by the RG 34 (Reinigungsgerät 1934) in 1934!

Whatever. In any event the things on the insdie of the flap on my 1934 dated military holsters are in the same configeration as those on the inside of the flap of my 1935 dated military holster.

If one were to look on the inside of the flaps of my 1934 dated military holster and my 1935 dated military holster, one could not tell which is which.

I checked my holsters. I have the following 1935 dated Military holsters.

1935 Carl Heinchen - Dresden - WaA 142 - all on inside - quantity 1

1935 C. Heinchen - Dresden - WaA 142 - all on rear - quantity 5

1935 Otto Sindel - Berlin - WaA 94 - all on rear -- 34 type - quantity 1

1935 Auwaerter & Bubeck, A.G. Stuttart - WaA 101 - all on rear - quantity 2

While checking the holsters, I found one interesting fact concerning the Heinchen marked holsters.

5 of the ones I have has the "C" Heinchen markings on the back. One had the "Carl" Heinchen markings on the inside of the holster - on the back.

Has anyone else seen the Heinchen markings with the full first name on the inside of the holster ?

I have had a theory for a long time about the scarcity of the 1935 Luger holsters.

Mauser started making the P.08s in 1934. I suspect the German military had a large order placed for them. Mauser seems to have had problems producing the number of guns that the military wanted although I have seen no hard documentation of that. But, seemingly, the military would have wanted more than the 11,000 or so that Mauser produced.

Holsters are much easier to make than pistols. So, I suspect that a large number of holsters dated 1934 were produced anticipating matching them up with K date Lugers but the pistol production fell far short of the goal. With a large over stock of 1934 dated holsters, they would have likely limited the orders for more 1935 dated ones. So, I think that most G date Lugers were issued with 1934 dated holsters.

I have no proof of any of the above but my theory is the result of a long time analysis of the situation.

Just my opinion.

That seems to explain why my G date rig came with a 1934 Genschow made holster.

Some of the makers continued on to produce holsters for the G date.

I also found only holsters of these makers made in 1934.
I teresting is that all of these holsters can be found with the marker stamp on the front and on the backside.
From 1935 all holster makers stamped their marker stamp on the backside only. May be that is an indiz for the holsters made for K and made for G dates with the 1934 stamp.
