Yes, what he says is true. However, in looking for serial numbers for my lugers, I have matched one correctly and one with the same number (a DDR magazine) for a Simson gun, not correct at all.

but my point is, unless you have one force matched, a no-no in the luger collecting world, for the simple reason is that 20 years from now, will it get sold as an 'all matching' gun?

So that said, as a collector, i say find one that is period correct and feel good about it.

As a non-collector, there are guys that will mark them for you, however, most I have seen, and especially a 'sanded' bottom, looks like heck, and is obvious.
