Not true. Stainless 300 series is magnetic, less so than carbon but still magnetic. a really good QA guy that worked for me in the past could tell whether it was 304 or 316 just by how much the magnet would "pull". Wouldnt believe if it didnt see it time and time again. (I believe he used other methods and hints but he would always say it was the magnet).
