Default color and appearance after strippping?

Dear Experts

What should the color and appearance of bare luger metal be after stripping off the bluing with naval jelly (phosphoric acid)? Should it be dull rather than shiny? Is there a difference in the appearance of the bare metals used in early a 1912 DWM, and in a 1941 Mauser?

Thanks,
Jeff

SKS, CZ-52, Nagant, Walther P88, S&W Model 10, Browning Hi-Power etc are all stripped dull gray color. I have never seen a gun stripped shiny, unless polishing them with steel wool after stripping.
