Thanks Eric W. I know the S/42 would mean it's a Mauser. I saw a 1936 S/42 on gunsamerica for really expensive. (4200) which is in better condition than the one I have pictured. What markings, or serial numbers would be most desirable on this gun.

Also are most lugers that American soldiers brought home MATCHING? I would have thought they would be since they were taken from dead soldiers that probably had them issued brand new.
