I have used a foam barrel cleaner for years with no problems. Spray it into the bore from the firing chamber end and allow to set for 15 to 30 minutes.
Putting a clean patch down the bore picks up blue and black stains. The blue is copper, while the black is carbon. Clean patch the bore until no more blue or black then oil.
I hope you have the same expierence. I have not heard or read of any damage using the foaming bore cleaner.

Additionally, I place a clean rag into the firing chamber area to protect those parts while using the foaming bore cleaner.
