The pin that holds the sear safety in goes through the frame and then there is a slot that is cut in the top of the sideplate. I am sure that the sear bar itself is not cut, but touched by the spring action of the sear safety; this prevents the sear from activating if the gun is not altogther (i.e. the top half is off the frame). ed
