Schiwy safety
Dear Experts
Is there any impediment to having a Schiwy in conjunction with an unrelieved sear? Is there a vertical hole in the sear bar to accommodate this safety? If so, does the hole go all the way through the sear bar? thanks, Jeff |

Lets see, Schiwy is the sear safety correct; there should still be a picture in the FAQ (right above this posting)... The pin that holds the sear safety in goes through the frame and then there is a slot that is cut in the top of the sideplate. I am sure that the sear bar itself is not cut, but touched by the spring action of the sear safety; this prevents the sear from activating if the gun is not altogther (i.e. the top half is off the frame). ed |
Whether the sear bar is relieved or unrelieved has no effect on the Schiwy safety. There is a vertical hole in the front of the sear bar that the front pin of the Schiwy safety drops into when the side plate is removed. I do not have a Luger with a sear safety so I do not know if the hole is drilled all the way through...I suspect it probably is. The side plate holds the Schiwy safety up so that the pin will not drop into the sear bar when the action is assembled. The side plate is modified with a slot on top to allow the pin to move back and forth when the action is cycled.

Good question! Hmm. I had to go take one down and have a look. The safety hole goes through enough so that you can see the relief pin, but not all the way through the sear bar.

Thank you!!
