Hi Alan,
The simple way to do it is: With the toggle down and in battery. Place the muzzle against a rigid non-marring surface, push firmly. The receiver will slide back approx.1/4" to 3/8" and stop. Hold it there and install the side plate rear end fist, then pivot the take down lever up into place. Gently relieve the pressure and let the receiver slide forward. Everything should be correct. If not, repeat the prodedure. Ron
