A very unusal Luger holster. The 5 digit number on the back, if the serial number to the Luger indicates the assigned pistol may have been a commerical model. The Weimar police often marked the rear of their holsters with the weapon's serial number, but this is not a police style holster, not with a WaA stamp, which is military. Wa280 is listed to the Karl Weiss Lederwarenfabrik (Bender). It is dated 1939, which also indicates it is not a commerical private purchase.

The cover flap doesn't go over the extra mag sleeve, which was very important protective feature, as all the other Luger holsters styles do. There is apparently no tool pouch inside the cover flap. Also no lift strap, so access to the pistol must have been better with this design. Military pigskin is too early to have a '39 date.

May have been a new design tested by the military, but then there would be no reason for the weapon's serial number on the back, if that is what the number was.

Other, more knowledgeable guys on this forum might know the answer.
Joe
