identify this "Luger" holster
Can anyone identify this "Luger " holster on E Bay ?
Looks a bit like one , but obviously not military issue , perhaps commercial , private or foreign order ?? http://cgi.ebay.com.au:80/ws/eBayISA...E:B:EF:AU:1120 |

A very unusal Luger holster. The 5 digit number on the back, if the serial number to the Luger indicates the assigned pistol may have been a commerical model. The Weimar police often marked the rear of their holsters with the weapon's serial number, but this is not a police style holster, not with a WaA stamp, which is military. Wa280 is listed to the Karl Weiss Lederwarenfabrik (Bender). It is dated 1939, which also indicates it is not a commerical private purchase. The cover flap doesn't go over the extra mag sleeve, which was very important protective feature, as all the other Luger holsters styles do. There is apparently no tool pouch inside the cover flap. Also no lift strap, so access to the pistol must have been better with this design. Military pigskin is too early to have a '39 date. May have been a new design tested by the military, but then there would be no reason for the weapon's serial number on the back, if that is what the number was. Other, more knowledgeable guys on this forum might know the answer. Joe |
I may be an amateur at this but that "Berlin-39" stamp on the back looks like it was done with the same font and size of my Tandy leather stamping kit.
This plus the fact that this stamping is not even close to straight indicates these letters were stamped one at a time and were not created by a commertial stamp. I may be wrong but I see a nice, interesting, vintage holster ruined by somebody's attempt to boost it. |
I wouldn't have it in my collection.

I am with Jerry on this one... it is strictly a POOR reproduction and not worth what is being asked on ebay.
|
John, it's not a reproduction. I believe it is a variation of the Bulgarian holster. The stamping on the reverse is phony as noted above. Bulgarian holsters like this in really good shape rarely bring $50.

As George will attest, whenever we sell a gun at a show, the buyer, as a condition of the sale, must take a vulgarian holster along with the piece. They are awful.

Woah, what the heck, that is one of my brother's old holsters! I even posted it up on here, querying when it arrived at my address first, remember anyone? Unbelievable, what are the odds?! He sold it at a militaria fair about a month after he got it, i believe it did originally come from an estate sale however. I think you blokes identified it as a 'Bulgarian' holster back then also. Eh, it was OK, nice to actually carry the pistol in without damaging a proper one i suppose, but i'll stick to my originals thanks very much.
Still can't believe it is back for sale, i guess everything eventually finds it's way back to Feepay |
Ok thanks fellas , guess that solves it . might send the seller a little warning message !
|
Call me ignorant, crazy, or tasteless but I have a Bulgarian holster that I actually prefer to the typical German style holster.
Mine is much nicer than than that one. Eye of the beholder I guess. ;) |
Well there you go , someone paid $125. for it . maby Bulgarian holsters are about to take off!? Guess they can't be as common as german made ones!
|
Gee, I guess I should sell mine! I think I have a screw driver I can use to add the date....
|
At the rate people are being taken in by this stuff, you might as well add an "H. Himmler" or "H. Goering" while you are at it and really make some money.
|
Hahaha, too true ^ someone would probably buy it too, sadly :( People get taken in by so much crap without research
