Hello Hoyt,

I believe regular vinegar could remove it.. If you take it apart and lay in in vinegar for about 24 hours, most of it should then go off.
Be aware that it will most likely rust a little in small places, inside barrel, between parts and in scratches. So don't let it stay in it too long.

Placing the Luger in an oven may cause weakness in the metal, especially the upper parts.. I would not recommend you to do that, it could be dangerous!
