Depends on what you are trying to find out? Serial number is needed to place an approximate date, and "it looks like another" is not always true... Proofs can be different etc.. Date is the 1940, the 42 is Mauser manufacturer.... Close ups would be needed to see if it has been reblued ... Appears to be a nice 1911 too....
