If it is a 1920's commerical barrel, they came in 4, 6, 8, 12, 15 inches (about any size you wanted), so it could be shorter or longer than 16 inches. That said, attaching the stock would not be legal on a short "rifle" of less than 16 inches...
It sounds like a Pacific Arms (or the like) barreled gun. ed
