They sure look like boys to me too!

It's my understanding that European military men (& boys) have usually worn their pistols on their left. Cross-drawing them with their right hand as their left hand holds open the holster top. Some holsters have a leather tab connected to an internal strap. When the tab is pulled with one hand, the pistol will rise up in the holster, making it easier to remove with the other hand. This kind of holster really works best for the right-handed if worn on the left.
