Default Pp Ss Issue?

HI I JUST BOUGHT A PP PISTOL AT A GUN SHOW. AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT FALLS IN THE SERIAL NUMBER RANGE THAT WAS ISSUED TO THE SS?? COULD THAT BE TRUE? THE SERIAL NUMBER IS ON THE SLIDE, FRAME AND THE MAGAZINE. ON THE SPINE.
THE SERIAL NUMBER OF THE PISTOL IS 204838 P
IT IS A COMMERCIAL MADE PISTOL. EAGLE OVER N....
CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHEN IT WAS MADE AND COULD IT HAVE BEEN ISSUED TO THE SS?????

When someone is trying to sell a firearm, stories can get on the "wild" side. When buying a firearm, buy the weapon, not the story unless there is definite proof! The dealer wants to sell the item.

With that said, I checked my verified SS, RSHA - Reich Security Main Office, issued Walthers. Most of these were the PPK, but a few PPs were issued. The closest S/N listed is 204111 P, issued to Karl Dettmann, a Kriminalangestelter (acting detective), issued Nov 12 1943.

Could it have been issued to an SS person, possibly, but without poof it is just a story. The SS, from what I have read, did not buy in large "blocks" to issue. Officers of the SS probably had to buy their own handguns like the miltary officers, so any S/N could show up. I am not sure of the time of manufacture, but it would be in the early 1940s

Bob,
John P. Pearson Has contributed several articles to the AUTOMAG, over the last 18 months, outlining his research into serial number ranges of Walther PPKs that were issued to the SS and I would imagine that his data base extends to PPs of the same period. John can be contacted at P.O. Box 2524 Toluca, Calif 91610. You will find him to be a real gentleman that will be more than willing to help you research your pistol.

Bob,

Glad to hear that you got the straight information from Deiter. If he says it is correct, it is correct. I looked in Deiter's book on the SS PPs and did not see your particular pistol noted, but I am glad you found the answer. Congratulations on the find!
