Dave, These LPO8s with barrels of less than 8"s (around 7&1/2") are normally a result of the original fine tune front sight being frozen up and the post WW1 repair consisted of cutting off the barrel at the rear of the front sight base. The front of barrel was then turn down to accept a standard non-adjustable front sight and base. TH
