Mike, after staring at pictures for a while, the #2 mag might be a taller "e".
Closeup pics. could confirm this.

MFC, here is a bigger pic of the mag's..hopefully not to large..[IMG][/IMG]

G Vann its hard to see, but look at the two casing between the rounds that say perterson. I know it hard to make out but it does not appear to be made in the U.S.

Hi,

Didn't see the 'dnh' marked rounds on your other picture.

The 'dnh' rounds are original WW2 German rounds, lacquered steel cases, probably with iron core bullets, made in 1944 by Rheinisch-Westf¤lische Sprengstoff A.-G., (Previously Gustav Genschow & Co. ) Werk Durlach, in Germany .

The Peters rounds are, as said, not German and not of German WW2 vintage. They're US-made rounds and probably quite old as well.

Edit
Any suggestion on where or who to trust to appraise the piece? I see a lot of places on line, but to say I am paranoid would be an understatement, lol.

Mike,
The #2 mag looks like an"l" to me. It also has a proof on the bottom,(probably E/63), that mag #1 doesn't have. It could just be a mistake made by the person stamping the mags. The two mags look like they are in identcal condition. The size and font style of 2887 match, and even the old oil stains match. It wouldn't surprise me at all, that both mags were originally issued with this Luger.
