1934-1935 mauser? Help and questions (good pic's of gun, holster & orginal bullets)..
 

Hello all,
A brief history here before I start. My Grandfather (dead for several years) picked this gun up while, iirc, on a battle ship in ww2. He seemed to pick up a lot of items from broke sailors, but this is one of coolest. Now my Grandmother still has this luger and she wanted me to take it. I told her she should sell it as it may be worth some money and buy a new car! So several months back I signed onto the forum to lean more about lugers and try and access a value on this piece.

I think I have it narrowed down to a 1934-35 Mauser Military, but please by all means let me know if this is correct (btw great info on the home page!). What lead me to this was the S/42, the â??Gâ?� on the breach/slider and the three bird proof. Also it seems rare for a gun to have matching magazines and holster ( I assume it belongs with this gun) oh and bullets. Where & who would I find a value with or if you have an idea please let it be known.

Please upload your photos to the Lugerforum server (link at the top fo the page). Many can't see photos put on public storage websites because government organizations and many corporations filter out those sites. Also, those websites frequently reorganize their structure and the links you post will go dead, so future readers can't see the photos either.

Only approx. 700 G date (1935) Lugers went to police procurement.

Your's is in exceptional condition, judging from the photos. It's difficult to place a value. Here's a link to one on Simpson's Ltd., that isn't in the best condition and doesn't have two matched magazines (big +).

Keep in mind that their pricing averages about 15-25% higher than what most collectors consider fair market value. However, with the condition of yours, it would be close.

The only draw back is that the holster is a Reichswehr (1919-1933) Army issue. The unit mark translates to 3rd Company/ 3rd Pioneer(Engineers) Battalion weapon # 71. However, it is in very nice condition.

So it's a police issue not military? And what does not match seemed like everything had the same numbers from what I recall.

Maybe I am missing something, this Luger doesn't have a sear or mag safety as far as I can see. Almost all police issued Lugers have sear safeties, but there are some exceptions.

A few G-Date Lugers with military acceptance marks were issued to the police, but they would have sear safeties.

The center part of the toggle (with the S/42) looks to have the number 67 in the photo. It may be your camera angle that makes the 8 look like a 6. This photo may have generated the comment concerning mismatched center toggle.

The holster is military style, which could be correct for this army proofed Luger, but it was probably issed with a later made holster. Based upon the 3 proofs E/63, this Luger was manufactured late in 1935.

What are the two extra holes in the flap for the take down tool sleeve?

They look purpose made but I have never seen anything like this before.

There is only one extra hole and it is for a cleaning rod that passes through it and tucks into the pocket below the take down tool sleeve.

It isn't a police issue...Simpson's is but Mike's isn't.

The sear saftey is not present, however the matching magazines are numbered 1 & 2 in the police fashion, as well as having the + found on spare military magazines. This would indicate to me that it was in police service at one time. And also responsible for my assumption that it was police issue. It is also in the "e" suffixed SN range.

Can anyone see the forward proof? Is it an E/L police acceptance.

nice gun, yes, I'd say it went into police service too with the two mathcing mags being 1 & 2.

If possible, post pictures here on this forum, they tend to stay longer than on photo blog sites.

Mea culpa...I didn't take the 1&2 mags into account...I never got past the "+" markings.

It also appears that the magazines are stamped with two different style "e"s. Are the magazine bodies nickle or blued?

Mag #1 is an "e" suffix, #2+ is an 'l" suffix... probably started out with this gun, but really only one matching mag.

My blunder! Just woke up from a nap and the toggle number looked like 43 when it was actually an 87 viewed upside down!

Wow guys! Thanks for all the great information! So it is a Military issue that went into police service? Also see I need to look for a cleaning rod, I bet it's there but will be a few month before I can check it out again. And I also read one mag maybe a replacement...

The 9mm para rounds were made by the Peters Cartridge Company, Cincinnati, OH, USA. They're not original German issue.
