Does anyone have a H&R 32 long in their ammo collections. It was discontinued in 1905 after the 32LS&W came out. I need the case length measurement. Thanks. Bill

Bill,
there is no mention of a "H&R 32 long" in my copy of Cartridges of the world. There is a mention of a generic "32 long" which has a case length of 0.791" and of a "32 long, CF(for center fire)" which is 0.82' long . Just for reference the 32 S&W long has a case length of 0.93". Maybe this helps?

I have it in Handloaders Manual of Cartridge Conversions, it is also known as the .32 Colt New Police and .32 S&W Long.
Scan coming...

Thanks Norm & Don. It is interesting that your page shows H&R as the same as 32 S&W L. But according to the H&R authors H&R did make a longer than 32S&W. It came out before the S&W 32L. They ceased it when S&W came out with the 32S&WL. I just purchased a !902 or so H&R revolver. It is in 32 cal. It also has a longer cylinder than a 32S&W. Also a 32long is just a bit to long for the cylinder. That's when I went searching on line and found 2 mentions of a H&R 32 L. They ceased it in 1905. It was a black powder load. I can cut down 32 S&WL to fit. Maybe even use 32S&WL brass with a wad cutter or flat bullet. More curious than anything. Thanks again. Bill

If it was a black powder load would .32 S&W shorts work at all?

I expect it would fire black powder S&W shorts. But bullet would have to jump quite far from cylinder to barrel. Bill
I just measured the cylinder (1.21) As shown in Richards chart the over all length of the 32 L is 1.28. A regular 32 Long just barely sticks out the end of the cylinder. It will not function. As I said before maybe 32 S&W L brass with a flat nosed bullet would work? Bill
