front sight height question?
My .30 cal with fixed sights shoots 8 inches high at 20 yards. If I rebarrel another pistol with a 6 in. barrel and use the standard sight it appears that it would also shoot high. Would the use of the so called navy barrel with the higher sight block correct this??

Re: front sight height question?
David, the higher your front sight, the higher your point of impact will be (unless I have been doing it wrong all my life).

(Pssst - hey Bill??? )
The higher the front sight - the LOWER the point of impact. The higher the REAR sight - the HIGHER the Point of impact...
I think thats what you meant - right????!!! |

BUT - don't ever tell anyone I said any of this (especially on the Luger Forum!!), OK???!!! |

Re: The Trap is sprung! P38s
John, how about a parallel forum with the same type of format as Dok's excellent Luger forum, the same participants we all know and love (well like anyway) but hi lighting P.38s! You have the Computer savy and obviously the PASSION and the hardware to run one. As you learn and buy Marvin, GT, Frank, Thor, Dok and others (go look at the people in the user profiles that collect them) we could really make this thing move and give us a place to move all this OT P.38 Chatter! Just a......little thought that......just crossed my pea brain! WHATYA THINK? thor

Re: The Trap is sprung! P38s
It would be good to separate the two and as you can see there is LOTS of interest! I think the two sites could compliment each other, the "Dok & John" Show!! Thor

Re: The Trap is sprung! P38s
WOOOOOW, a P.38 Forum; that would be fun. The only other Forum that has this is the Gun & Knife Forums at present. It gets some postings, but the Luger Forum they have is sort of slow. This is the Priemier Luger Forum from what I know now, maybe there could be a Priemier P.38 Forum too. This si really something to think about. The P.38 seems to have increased in activity lately amd the prices are climbing slowely. The "cyq" P.38s are now getting close to the Walther and Mauser prices for the common pistols. Just my thoughts on this subject too.

Hmmm......
OK - I'm *only thinking out loud here!!!*...
Yes - I do have the servers, programs Internet connections, etc... HOWEVER, that being said - this site *would not exist* without DOK's dedication in maintaining it... Dok provides the "sizzle" that make it what it is, to be honest.. So - yes - I'd be willing to help assist in the preliminary programming (do the web board, classifieds, etc. programming) - but we'd need some/a volunteer(s) to help manage/maintain/moderate it.... Thoughts, comments???? |

David.... sight heigths...
Front sights came in three standard heigths, differing by .1mm.... the difference is noticable on the flange section above the dovetail. The shortest sight has no flange and the highest has a relatively thick flange... Tom Heller would know more obout this, but it seems that even if you had the shortest, and went to the highest, your gun would still shoot high...
just my 2 cents, fgr |

Re: front sight height question?
Hi !
David, I thought I'd let you know that you're not alone on this. I'll be using my non number matching P08 in competitions. It had a non original 120mm long barrel (equals about 4 3/4 inches) that shot just fine. I'm having it rebarreled as we speak. (I realized too late that the barrel does not comply with the roolbook so I have to swap it to a 4" barrel). My 'gunsmith' already took my shooter to a range and it shot about 6" to 8" too high at about 20meters. My smith will 'cut & paste' present front sight to make it taller. - Artsi |
