Custom front sights
Does anyone have any idea how many custom sight variations were actually done by the manufacturer and how many were aftermarket? I have a gold dovetailed front sight on a 7.65mm Eagle and it just made me wonder how many different sights were made for the Luger (either by DWM, Mauser, etc) and how many were marketed as Luger sights by King, Marble, etc. Any ideas?

Re: Custom front sights
The dovetail looks neat. I can´t see the knife blade Lger front sight any more and use a P 38 sight. It fits perfectly and you see them quite often on Lugers here in Germany. Patrick

Re: Custom front sights
Patrick, I have the same problem!! Marble did make them but they have been discontinued. The only chance is to find a store that has them in the back room. Hugh tells me that K98 Mauser front sights have the same dovetail. If anyone finds several, please let me know!!!!

Re: Custom front sights
Werle put a "U" rear sight on my Mini Luger - together with the P 38 front sight. And at last I can see what I´m shooting at. Quite a few Lugers I´ve seen have the rear sight filed out (there was a picture of a Norwegian one on the Forum some time ago). Of course it´s a shame to spoil a collectible gun - and I certainly wouldn´t do it to my other Lugers. Patrick

Re: Custom front sights
Here is a bead sight on my 1900 AE. I have seen this same sight on several others. All were in the serial range as mine.

Re: Custom front sights
I have seen 1900AEs with that very same bead front sight. Having seen more than two it has made me wonder if the buyer oredered them that way or if they were an option offered here in the US. (nice pic SteveM)!

Re: Custom front sights
I think that they were an option to the buyer. I picked up an original front sight for this pistol years ago just so that I would have it.(Thanks for the kudos on the pic)

Patrick, I have filed a square in the rear sight !!
I did this to a spare toggle to a shooter, so no damage! I would like to convert the front to a flat P38 type someday.

Re: Custom front sights
SARCO has 98 Mauser front sights for $1.75 each. These fit the Luger front sight dovetail and are tall enough that they can be filed down to give a flat top front sight.

Re: Custom front sights
Probably, I measured a Luger front sight and it was .275" high; the Mauser one was .312" high. There is a way to figure the correct front sight height, but I would have to look it up. Your baby will experience birth pangs on my next week in. The next two days will be consumed by "honey do's" and knife work.

I used a pattern file and
don't forget I said it was a pretty beat up rear toggle link. I did it for an experiment, but it turned out fairly nice.

Re: I used a pattern file and
Is there any way you can turn it back to the original? I´ve been asked quite often. Patrick

Re: I used a pattern file and
Other than changing out the rear toggle link, no!! Unless you welded up the sight slot and reworked it to the original "V".

Re: Custom front sights
I have the same front sight on my 1906AE serial# 63106. At first I thought someone just monkeyed with the gun. But I was told later that this was a ligit sight put on by Stoger for the american market. The rear sight was squared.

Re: Custom front sights
Steve, Your Ivory bead front sight was obivously not installed at the factory, judging from the peen marks on the right side of blade. Many gunsmiths and individuals installed these sights, which were available from Marble's, Sherd, et al, with a choice of Ivory, brass or gold bead.
