Another Common Mauser Parabellum

Hello,

Back in the 1970's I had an interest in the newly manufactured Mauser luger pistols. I was never happy with the Swiss style frame and later they came out with the P.08 frame. I think I bought this pistol in 1976. It is of course 9mm as indicated by the serial number. The pistol has been put away ever since I bought it and I have never fired it. This may be or is the last luger to be produced that is nearest to the original luger design. I believe already these are and will become more of a collector item. After all it is an "Original Mauser". It says so on the toggle. So I know it's true!

To my knowledge this pistol is not a curio & relic and cannot be bought and sold with an 03 Federal Firearms License. I hope soon it will be classified as a C&R.

In the year 2006 this pistol will be 30 years old. That also means I am 30 years older since I bought it! That is downright scary.

In any event I thought the members would like to see it. The images are not very good since they came off of my scanner.

Very nice example! I never liked the Swiss style frame either. The German has much more style.

Is that an 8 inch barrel? Or 7? 6? Looks long....The long barrels are sweet to shoot.

Beautiful Pistol! You see the Swiss style all over the place. Very rarely see the P.08 6" variation. I love the contrasting dual finish. I'm with Jerry, the long barrels are the best shooters.

Yes, it is a 6" barrel. I have all the original stuff with it plus a lot of extras I bought at the time. Like holster, extra magazines, takedown tool, cleaning rods, pair of new grips and a lot of spare parts. I made a large presentation box that houses everything. I think I paid under $400.00 for the pistol and I have all the paper work that came with it.

John, I make the scans on the scanner and then I touch them up with the Microsoft Picture It Express program I have. You can adjust the brightness, contrast and sharpness. You can also size the image easily. It works pretty good. These computers are amazing!

As I wrote before, I have a Mauser Parabellum of ~ 1977, which is hardly shot. I think my 24 rounds ( one mag full of Lapua�´s Luger load - these are He man springs in the mags!!! , and then 4 from each mag of S & B 124 grs SP ) are the most ever shot with that pistol.

Trigger, function, pointability - all tops!

Now: whats the difference between German and Swiss variations? I understand the machinery to be bought from Switzerland, but partially replaced. Why should these have another feling to the hand than "genuine" Lugers ????

Please find here a quick reply to your question. First, the Mauser Parabellum made in the 1970-90 era are absolutely â??genuineâ?�. The Mauser Parabellum(s) are the last genuine Luger produced by the Mauser in Oberndorf before selling all the production tools and equipments to the Blaser firm on 1999.
Usually the difference is done between Mauser Parabellum produced before and after WWII. Personally, I consider post WWII also the model made under French control up to 1947 when the Mauser firm was destroyed. In fact, although these Parabellum(s) were made assembling pieces made before the end of WWII they have a new numbering and stamping patterns and also the bluing modalities are totally different with respect to the previous production. Therefore is a completely different production in my understanding.

Coming back to your question, the Mauser Parabellum(s) made in 1970-90 are placed in three sets:
The 29/70 models, very similar to the 29 Swiss model;
The 06/73 models, close to the 06 model;
The Commemorative models: these pistols commemorate the most important models and contracts.

Concerning the tooling, Mauser bought the production from the Berna arsenal but these tools were soon replaced by more modern production tools.

The Mauser Parabellum(s) are very accurate pistols.

What can you tell us of this Blaser company that bought the Mauser tooling? Are they in the firearms business? Did they intend to produce new Lugers or parts?

I have contacted both Mauser and Blaser during the research for my book. If you look at page 101 of my book, notes number 9 and 10 you can see the answers to your questions. The notes are in English so no problems of language.
