Post Crown/RC Proof...?

Have seen an Erfurt luger with a small Crown/RC stamped on the barrel, right above/next to the Erfurt proof mark...

Is this the typical place for this Crown/RC stamp ?

Gun looked to have both a modified relieved sear bar and the hold-open feature added...

Thanks in advance for your help...

Regards,

Pete... <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

Pete, the C/RC can be found almost anywhere on the pistols. I've seen it on the left side of the barrel in the rear, above the first inspection mark on the right side of the receiver, on the toggles and on the front of the frame. I'm sure I've seen it in other locations as well but don't recall exactly where. IMO, the C/RC is found on the part that failed to pass inspection first time around but was found to function properly in spite of whatever was wrong and was acceptable to the Revisions Commission.

Hi Pete,
You are asking a somewhat "trick" question in my opinion. When talking about Erfurts, which are not my strongest suite, you have to specify the DATE, as each year things like the Crown R/C are found differently and more or less abundantly. The later models like 1917 and 1918 the answer to your question would probably be Yes, and the earlier years like 1911 and 1912 the answer is probably no. (Typical being the key word in your question).

Hello Bill,

It was a 1914 Erfurt; the one I saw in Switz City last week on my business trip.

It has not been modified to be an Erfurt/police luger; just a 1914 military Erfurt...

Thanks for your time !

I don't know if the discussion relates only to the Erfurts , but I have a 1916 DWM P08 with the C/RC on the frame. Will be glad to furnish full information if DWM data wanted.

My 1914 Erfurt artillery is C/RC proofed on the front trigger guard. The 1918 Erfurt that Ted refinished is C/RC marked on the front of the frame and rear and middle toggle link.

I have two Erfurts with the C/RC marks, both 1918. One is numbered 2579g and is marked on the front of the trigger guard, right side of the receiver, and the left side of the bbl. The second one is number 5826r and is marked on the front of the trigger guard, right side of the receiver, and top of the middle and rear toggle links. This gun was rebarreled and proofed in 1965 by the Ulm proofhouse as evidenced by the 65 "antler" on the bbl and the E/N proof on the bbl, left side of the receiver, front and middle toggle links and left frame flat.

I noticed that both of these guns have an additional two digit number not related to the serial number stamped on the inside of the sideplate projection that goes under the takedown lever, with a matching number on the frame just above & to the right of the trigger. Is this common to all Erfurts? Or does it possibly have something to do with the C/RC mark?

On that C/RC proof, based on the few ERFURTS I own:

1912: C/RC on front of trigger guard, like Dwight's pictured pistol.

1916: C/RC right side of receiver on top of last ( to the rear ) proof.

1913: No C/RC proof

If this can be of any help....

Hello Jan,

Sorry...I think I got my trip notes mixed up a bit. I jotted down notes on 3x5 cards and then entered them into my PC and got a couple of guns mixed up.

I visited nearly 14 gun shops over a 2 day period in IL and IN...

It was not the Switz City gun; it was a 1913/1920 Erfurt, with police modifications...

Again, my apologies for leading you astray...

Regards,

Pete...
