March 24th will be the 60th Anniversary of the "Great Escape". Here's an interesting article about it and the tunnel "Dick" they have rediscovered.

Tracy,
I belong to the friends of the Pa Military Museum. We have monthly meetings with a speaker. Several years ago the speaker was a pilot who was shot down and taken prisoner and taken to Stalag Luft 3. He spoke of his experience there during the great escape. He was not one of the escapees, but did help to dispose of the tunnel dirt. The great part of his story was he went down with his plane and survivied. He was the pilot and when the crew bailed out the plane went into a flat spin and he couldn't get out. When asked what did he do he said he screamed all the way down. He was 22 at the time. Told his crew he was 26 so they would have more confidence in him. It was a great generation, but then all generations are called upon to protect our freedom. May God bless our troops today. Carl |
