A few years ago when I was more active in Lugers I bid on some items that a gentleman from Alaska had listed on E-Bay. This fella had run a pawn shop in AZ right after WW2 and had basically horded all the Luger stuff he could get his hands on through the rest of the 1940's, 50's and 60's. To make a long story short, I was able to purchase a couple of holster and magazines privately from him, mainly because I mentioned that I wanted to keep those items original and they would not be messed with in any way. His items were as described and in excellent condition. He told me he had 100's of blank bottom aluminum based WW2 magazines, as well as 100's of black plastic based magazines and black plastic grips and ect., and that he had certain "customers" that he sold these items to for big money at the time, probably twice the actual value, all through the late 70's and 80's. I am sharing this with you because I have no reason to doubt this fella, and because magazines and black plastic, brown plastic grips have been switched/replaced by dealers/collectors for a long time. You can buy a book which states an estimated 2% have a certain thing on them, such a black plastic grips, but there is no way that anyone can be sure today when those were added. So ...... beware of all these out of the normal items you run across that have something unusual or rarer about them. An estimate is simply that, an estimate, and in todays market many items are made a certain way in order to get a little more $$ out of them.-- Bill
