Unhappy Nill Grips Goodnews/Badnews

Really more bad than good I am afraid. Just got informed that Nill can no longer offer them at the rate we had them at, they have JUST increased 36% due to the enchange rate of EUROs vs Dollars. I was offering them at $70 fitted and installed and now they have jumped to $100.
Oh yeah, the good news, they still fit superb.

Nil has a nice set of grips there, that fit perfectly and look original. Their price, before the change, was as high as hell.

What alternatives are there in grips? Who else makes a set that is a quality replacement?

Sounds like the current ones from CMR are nice, the older ones didnt fit that well at the safety area, but it sounds like they fixed the problem.

Unfortunately, CMR has informed me that they are backordered, and it will be 6 or more weeks before they can ship anything.

I have found another source for Luger grips in Germany, and they fit as well as the Nil grips, but do not exhibit the harsh grain characteristics of the Nil. However, they were almost as expensive as the Nil grips - about $58.00 last September. They have probably tracked the Nil grip price upwards as the dollar lost ground since the list price is stated in Euros.

It would be great if you would forward the contact information for these folks, as I speak German and travel there frequently.

Sieger -

Below is a copy of my initial email to the German company. I bought a pair of these and found them to be of good quality and proper fit.
Hope this helps.

Luke:

Thanks!! These grips are made in Germany, so their quality should be very good.

I'm going to order two pair.

Good luck with the purchase. Please let us know how they turn out. I was very pleased with the pair I received. Also, I saw another pair at Bob Simpson's place which was of excellent quality.

By the way, I bought mine last September at 51-EUR or $65.29. I would guess the US price has tracked the exchange rate.

Regards,
Luke

Someone once mentioned a shop in Illinois that offered replacement grips. How did that turn out?

Luke:

I contacted them today and they claim that they now do not sell to US customers. Did they sell to you here or did you pick them up there?

Hi Bob,

I first learned of them last July when I found them on the Internet. I contacted them by email and sent detailed pictures of the grips I had seen at Bob Simpson's place, inquiring whether they were the source of the grips. They confirmed that they were and offered to sell a set of the grips directly to me for the 51-EUR equivalent in USD. I provided a credit card number, and they shipped the grips directly from Germany to North Carolina in about a week.

Sorry they have decided not to ship to the US. I can't imagine the reason.

Regards,
Luke

With an unemployment rate of over 12%, one would think that a German firm would be happy for our business.

Well, I guess not.

Thanks anyway.

Perhaps one of our entrepreneurial German members can take advantage of this opportunity to become a distribution "source" of these grips?

Any takers? Dieter? Pisto? ...maybe you could make a quantity buy for a discount and make a few Euros on the shipping and handling?

Hello All:

I received another e-mail from Herr Ehrenreich today stateing that they sell to US firms, but not US individuals.

Perhaps, if one of our members would want to order a quanity of these grips, he would sell them to us.

Ted, I assume that Nill also licked their quality problem. A couple of years ago, the checkering was fuzzy under the safey area. Also, do they make light and medium shaded grips?

Don, I am much happier with them these days, I call Wes and tell him what I am looking for! The quality seems to be very good, but I think Hugh is still the best checkerer but I am biased! His work is so perfect.

Now Precision arms has quit carrying them, looks like Larrys guns will carry them. Wonder what is next? This message is posted on the Larry's Guns website. Larry's Guns WEBSITE

Just ordered some smooth Nill Luger grips from Larry's. At the present Euro/$US exchange rate they cost me about $102/pr after adding shipping and insurance. The checkered ones would have been slightly higher!
