my stepfather has a artillery luger ser# 5xx all matching. there is an import marking of stoger arms. i've searched several places about it's statis as a curio or collector and found that maybe it's status has changed. also what do these classifications mean. does it have to be registered? and of course we're curious about value. i have some photos i can post after i send them to photobucket. the pistol is in used condition.
![]() ![]() editing to see if my photo shows up. i loaded it in the my picture and avitar locations. kevin |

Hi Kevin,
Welcome to the Forum. I for one would sure like to see more photos of your family's nice 1914 Erfurt artillery. Any chance of posting more ? Your artillery luger's value depends on original finish condition, all factory matching and numbered parts, etc. More photos would help our LP-08 experts nail down a good price valuation for you. The BATF establishes the status of weapons on the Curio & Relics list. You can download a free pdf-file copy of this list on their web site : http://www.atf.gov/firearms/curios/index.htm Basically, guns made prior to 1898 are considered "Antiques" and are not part of the C&R status and licensing. Guns made from 1899 to 1946 are considered C&R's. Some special guns made after 1946 may also have C&R status but you need to check the C&R list for those unique guns. Registration requirements vary from State to State. I will let fellow LF members that live in Michigan give you their opinions. You might also want to contact a firearms division in your State government offices...as that might be the most up-to-date info. In CA-State, we go to the Department of Justice, Firearms Division, for such registration info. p.s. Our LF member, Big Norm, lives not too far from you and is quite the LP-08 collector. I am sure he will love to see this piece in person...!!! and would be able to help you to a detailed examination... Regards, Pete... |

Thank you Pete.
the gun is in NY state with my mom and stepdad. my mother said she will shoot some more photos. normaly i wouldn't be so lazy to just ask for all this info as i know that if i did searchs that all the info is all ready here. if the gun was mine i would be all over this stuff. i belong allready to the 1911, cult of the P7(hk P7), HK pro, Biggerhammer(50BMG), swedish mauser, schmit-rubin(K-31),and russian mosin nagant forums for which i have at least one firearm of each type. you never know, it could find it's way to me kevin |

Hello Kevin,
Just wondering what you mean with "there is an import marking of stoger arms". Do you mean â??Stoegerâ?? Can you clarify this point? Thank you. Mauro

Hi Kevin, Welcome to the Lugerforum...
Nice Artillery! Hope you can show us more of it. I have a request that you reduce your avatar's size by about 25 percent as it's current size slightly distorts the page on some screens with lower resolution. Here is a photo of a better and more appropriate size, you can post it where you want, and then change your avatar using the my profile link at the top of the page... ![]() Thanks for using your portrait as your avatar, I think it makes communications a lot more personal and neighborly, ... and folks are easier to recognize at gun shows... Regarding yoru question about registration, the only registration you (or your parents) may be subject to on this gun would be NY State registration... If you are unsure of the laws for NY, then check the NRA.org and find their link to the state laws... you should find the answer to that question there. This artillery Luger would not be subject to Federal Registration UNLESS it has a stock that is not ORIGINAL to the model, or a "close" reproduction of the original. For instance, you couldn't use a Navy Luger stock with it... that would be illegal without Federal registration under the NFA of 1934 as a Short Barreled Rifle (SBR). But attached to an ARTILLERY stock, it is perfectly legal by ATF standards without NFA registration. and once again, welcome. ![]()

Kevin, that was me... I am the admin for the forum, and I changed your photo because it was still too large after you said you had reduced it
... and rather than bother you again with technical issues, I just whittled it down to a size that won't distort lower resolution screens... sorry if that is an issue for you, but your photo was substantially larger than most. I didn't think you would mind... If you want keep your photo on your "photobucket" site, please be my guest, and your avatar can be anything you would like it to be as long as it is in good taste... (this site is rated "G") but please don't make it any larger than the example I have used.

kevin, try renaming the photo that you end up with and post it at your photobucket site... then use the My Profile link at the top of the page to change your avatar by inserting the URL in the pop-up window in the appropriate place...
later,

Kevin,
I will be at the Novi show on Sept 25th and would like to take a look at the gun. I will be there probably only on Saturday since I have a class reunion on Sunday. But if there is something interesting there I might go back again on Sunday. I did that at the last show where I picked up a decent 1916 navy for $2500 by going back on Sunday. Registrating the gun in Michigan would not be a problem depending on which city you live in. In Detroit proper and Southfield, they have a rather long wait to get a purchase permit (about 30 days). In some other communities, the wait period is shorter. In some places you can just sit and wait for them to type it out. So the wait period varies from city to city. In Farmington Hills, the delay is about ten days. Talk to your city clerk at the police station for a better explaination of the purchase permit process in your city. It can be confusing. Most of these city clerks don't really know what they are talking about. They are just data entering, paper pushers. The permit is free so there isn't a cost factor. The police do not want you to bring in a mag, a stock or a holster. Just the gun in a container. You could be fined if you bring in a gun with a mag in it. Federal BATF rules qualifies your gun as a curio and relic. But it is not a curio or relic under Michigan rules because it uses modern and commercially available ammo. So you can have it sent to you by someone with an FFL but you must register it in Michigan after you receive it. Email me using the above mailing box. If you don't live too far then maybe we can get together for coffee and I will answer your questions as best that I can. I don't really know what you mean by a Stoeger artillery as far as value is concerned. None of my artilleries have import markings so I never had a problem about pricing them. Generally, collectors don't want to see import markings. But the local and state police will legally just consider it a pistol. In Farmington Hills, the police will really like (in a nice way) to see a nice collector quality Luger and it just may attract a crowd of cops who may even take personnal pictures of it. I have had as many as eight officers at a time look at some of my Lugers that I brought in for registration. I loved it because it gave me a chance to brag a bit. Big Norm |

Doggonit Kevin, you are driving us nuts! You have got to get some photos of the artillery and accessories with the quality of your HK shots! The gun and accessories look great in the pictures so far, but it is hard to tell just how good they really are. You are right that it is getting exciting, but small fuzzy pictures raise more questions than they answer. Hang in there and keep pumping out the photos... we all are really interested in this rig.
P.S. Thanks to your Mom for indulging us Luger fanatics and providing the photos.
