Anyone with pictures of rusty Lugers?

I have heard that german solidiers hid their weapons in the ground when the war ended. It would be interesting to see how Lugers desintigrate.

Here is a P38 found in the ground. A little past rusty, but great for display.

It's interesting to se what 60-70 years can do with a gun! I have a rusted Montenegrin revolver myself, but that one is from around 1860

It's interesting to note that I've seen medieval swords dug out of the ground in better condition than some guns from just sixty years ago. Josef, I'd say yours actually rusted in a rather attractive manner. Is it fairly solid or does it flake bits and pieces when handled? If you do decide to sell, let us know what you're looking to get out of it. Might still be a hassle getting it south of Canada though, who knows? --Tom--

Hi Tom, it was actually very solid, as well as the p38. The trrigger of the P08 was a bit weak as I cleaned around it. The handles are very well preserved, even better on the other side. The first magazine I found crumbled in my hands, this next one was quite solid. I have sold a k98 I dug out of the ground, as well as a 33/40 both to the US without problems. I have coated them with a very thin verithane cover to preserve them. Thanks for the interest, I would advertise here first for sure. The only thing is I would not likely find another.

Anyhow, I can't believe how much someone would pay for that rusty old luger! It's up to $300!

They are building on the WW1 battlefields and the Russian Battlefields. The stuff being recovered is amazing. Some junk, some good enough to use. I just hope the locals respect the sacrifice made for this property. In our country we build gas pumps over the blood soaked ground of heroes...

Have you guys seen the metal detector finds of the ww1 battlefields? Some very sad, such as a group of soldiers that were buried under a giant morter blast. Others that were exciting like the whole tank that fell into a hole and was used as a bunker. In the former USSR they are digging up such amazing stuff. On ebay they are selling individual parts of things they have dug up with metal detectors.

I'm sorry to see this thread deteriorate, I personally think it is a great topic and has good potential. I would love to see more P08s in degrading conditions, whether ground dug or the damage of being left in a holster or humid environment for long periods, of time, not cleaned properly, ect. I have an e-mail or two from these guys, they have found lots of things, including GI remains that were turned over to the German gov't and the US gov't.
