Just bought my first Luger because I had to have it. SN 8560 with all parts so marked excep the silver magazine which has 8180 "L" or "2" and an eagle over 83. Right side has three stamps: w154--s92 and one I don't recognize. It looks like an upside down crown with what appears to be two stars in it. Under the serial number on the barrel, it has 8.82. The front radius on the trigger guard has what looks like a lowercase "b". Nothing else on the outside. Aguy told me it was about a 92% gun. If I screwed up, please let me down easy. I'm looking forward to shooting. Any info would be helpful. Great site!

Hello Ed, welcome to the Luger Forum. Sounds like a nice G Date. The W154 and S92 are acceptance or inspection marks, sometimes called waffenamt marks (waffen = weapon and amt = office). A government inspection office. The third mark is a proof mark (it's really an eagle, with feet), which mean it was subjected to an over load cartridge and obviously passed. There are six combinations of waffenamt marks in the G-Date series, yours being the third.

There should be a whole bunch of little "60" marks on most of the little parts. The 8,82 is the bore diameter in millimeters (the size of shaft that would fit down the barrel).

The trigger, take down lever, safety lever, trigger, magazine release button and ejector should be "golden" or "straw" colored.

From your description, the magazine is from a 1938 Luger. Your G-Date was made in 1935.

There were only about 55,000 of these G-Date Lugers made, so they are fairly rare. No one knows just how many still exist!

Frank, from the pics of mine on the board can you tell which combination mine was from the waffenampts? Third? last, first?

Hi mowser, 8754d, I believe has two droop eagle over 63 acceptance marks. That being the case, it's the sixth and last combination before the 1936 production. The 1936 production was totally DE/63 & DE/63.
