My friend (French) lives near Omaha Beach and does relic hunting there and other locations. He has sent me some relics (no weapons) dug in the Falaise areas of German retreat. He and his friends also do U.S. paratrooper reenactments during their annual D-Day celebrations.

Looks to be a loaded Luger, based upon the mag button being near the bottom. Mag bottom is gone though. Wonder if there is a round in the chamber?

I lived in France in the 50's. Dad was stationed near Verdun while in the USAF. I remember many woodlots were off limits. Having not yet been cleared of ordinance. My brother and I once brought a dud 88MM home. That got some excitement. Of all things to find in a scrap yard, Dad bought a Amoskeag Model 1861 Special musket for a $1.00. My brother still has it. Dad actually found two and gave one to my brother and I to play with. It did not survive us. That Amoskeag got me started years later with a love of old guns.
