Question DANZIG Arsenal ????

Found this post this morning on GUNSWORLD forum.

"I have a DWM luger with a 1918 date and a large crown over the 1918 on the chamber. Can't find any info or pictures in any of my books except maybe a Amberg Arsonal on the crown. Any info would help"

I found a reference to the Danzig Arsenal in Constanzo's WOL proof book. Anybody know anything about this type of variation? Doesnt seem to have much written about it. <img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" /> Thanks

Thor:

There was a Prussian Royal Arsenal at Danzig. I have a Mauser Model 71/84 that was produced there.

You have a DWM toggle on the pistol, but with a receiver with a crown over the date. Humm, interesting indeed.

I recall having read in the past that the crown date was some sort of Arsenal rework stamping. I too believe it was Danzig.

Cool

More investigations at Jan Still's forum indicate some posters there had some info on these. Do a SEARCH with the word DANZIG and read the thread marked AMBERG and you will see this picture and a write up from PAULO on it!
