cannon to frame fit question

I'm looking at a 1915 luger. The cannon (barrel/slide) rails stand proud of the lower frame at the front. From the photos I cannot make out the serial numbers on barrel or frame. Does this mean that one or other has been replaced? Is it OK to shoot it? There has been no response from seller.

If the receiver is stamped 1915 it can only have come from a short frame gun. If the frame is even shorter than this then something is very wrong. I would pass this one by.

My bad, I've been looking at a lot of lugers lately. Seller doesn't say what year it is. It is a DWM Swiss Navy in 30 cal.

I saw that one, it is a hodge-podge of various parts.
The receiver has a Swiss cross, which explains why it projects, it is a "long" receiver on a short frame.

Good one Kurusu, I do believe you are correct about the Swiss "Navy".

One would suspect that the title of the offering is such that most search engines would show that offering in their listing string for several common Luger terms. Some guys use automated engines of one type or another to hunt for specific items, hence some of the larger vendors name their goods just for this, and walla.....it shows up, perhaps to an impulse buyer. Sometimes a manual search separates the chaff I have found; good search engines are to be treasured.

Kinda a neat pistol from the pictures I think, long barrel and the rear two position sight. Takes some time to make up a barrel like that for what that is worth, I personally like a longer barrel. The two position rear sight could be a casting(some rep for soft) or a real mckoy. The Swiss long frame receiver is probably a plus as to use as a shooter. I really cannot say much one way or another on the offering.

I tried to enlist in the Oklahoma Coast Guard several times myself; but I cannot swim. Ah, just teasin...........

Sometimes titles are there for many reasons; just a marketing thing.

I see no reserve, so it will bring what it will bring. As far as the buyer knowing what it is or what it is not, the number by their name tells me that he probably knows, and just put it out for bids and see what happens.

Might not be the right pistol for a beginner, but who am I to even think that? Everyone has their desires to be sure. Everyone has to think for themselves.

Tis at around 450-ish now, might be more parts in it that that on a piece by piece basis. Shiny pistol, not sure if plated or not, but certainly buffed a little. Buffing to me is not a hinderance, it is how it performs and shoots rather than a 401K rendition.

I used to have a short 30 with a barrel very similar, with a navy rear toggle, it shot ok for me; but had to revamp it for optics last year, old dog with cheapo glasses you know.

The seller's title is Swiss Navy, but hid description is more accurate as he describes it a "swill navy luger"! It is on gunbroker with 6 days to go

When you see a receiver proud of the frame in front it's often evidence that the frame's serial number has been removed and changed.

In the USA, that act is frowned upon by the ATF.

Besides, the concept of a "Swiss Navy" is a little like adding Nebraska to a SCUBA diver's bucket list... Of course, I'm sure Lake Lucerne has a packet mail steamer...

The seller's intentions may have been honorable and just ignorant; but are certainly less than accurate and would serve to befuddle and possibly deceive an uninitiated buyer. JMHO.

well, they do have a lake flotilla of patrol boats. But it's, I believe, an Army branch and not a real "Navy".

I happened to have travelled on Lake Lucerne on that ship (or one just like it) last year on vacation. While it flew the Swiss flag, I am pretty sure it had no military affiliation. Great Vacation BTW...
