My first Luger

Well i picked this up a few months ago for a good price. All matching save the magazine. The case is original. 9mm. I have taken it out once. It is fun to shoot. even had a creepy experience that day. This is my first post on the forum, glad to be here.

Looks like a nice gun there, and all matching- not so easy to find. Holster looks like a nice one too.

May I ask, what was your "creepy experience?"

I have not been on this forum very long myself, and have just acquired my first Luger.. but have not fired it... so therefore my question. May I ask what ammunition you are using?

There is a wealth of experience and knowledge here... quite remarkable! You have some world experts here- and they are very helpful and welcome any questions. The "Stickies" are very good.... Nice to have you here

Bumped into a kid who said his dad likes Lugers. Didn't know his dad was there. Came up to me at the firing line and wanted to see it. I showed it to him, but i got this feeling as he was talking to me about the pistol, and case by his tone "You shouldn't own this!" And was fondling my case. Such is life.

Your 1937 Mauser Luger was made early in the year before some major transitions. There were several changes that year, including switching from Rust Bluing to Salt Bluing; Eliminating the strawed (golden colored) parts and adding additional milling at the rear of the frame, leaving a "hump".

You have an early and desirable gun from that year. There were not so many made with the old features in 1937.

Consider not shooting this one if it's all matching. It looks collectible and in original condition. It's possible your "creepy visitor" was really advising you not to shoot a collectible Luger.

Your original but non-matching magazine was from a later Mauser (1939 - 1940 or thereabouts).

Well if the Son stated his "Father likes Lugers", the Father was probably making a feeble attempt at trying to buy it from you. As stated by Marc above, yours is a very desirable variation of a 1937 dated Luger.
A Luger at the range usually brings spectators.

So does my Spas-12 and PSL. But i only took it out the one time, just to say i shot one. i doubt ill take it out again. one and done. I guess not bad for $800

Well... just a thought, but if you are open to share the serial no of your Mauser, you have a chance to make your package complete by finding the matching magazine . I think one of the forum moderators maintains a list of "orphaned magazines" which are trying to "find their way home" and reunite with their matching gun. I think a few matches have already happened, although it is a slim chance... that's true. That's why my signature has "looking for magazine no. 7097." Then your collector value goes WAY up

Maybe someone else is looking for your magazine no. 6024??

I haven't been here long either; I'm just starting out too, and several here have convinced me not to shoot my collectable. Glad to hear you are considering the same. Then you can have some fun looking around for a good shooter. I'm doing that now! I still have never fired a Luger... but I will !!

A friend of my wife's whos husband has passed away. She knows im not selling them. I love the history. Its where i got the Artillery model as well, and im headed there to pick up a JoLaAr, a steyr hahn 1911 and if im lucky grab a type 14 nambu.
